LOHIA BOE SAMUEL
Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director (Co-Founder of SCAL)
Mr. Lohia Boe Samuel is from Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea (PNG). He has been in the insurance industry for over 30 years and has grown in stature as a respected leader in the PNG insurance industry. He is one of a few Papua New Guineans with practical experience in life and medical insurance and has developed numerous products for various sectors of the PNG market. He is also a shareholder of Southern Cross Assurance Limited.
Under Lohia's leadership, SCAL's book of business has grown steadily from bottom (zero) to a gross written premium of around PGK 225 million in the first 8 years of SCAL's existence. This is a powerful testimony of Lohia's loyalty, dedication, and ability to win, retain, and grow business from the bottom up.
Furthermore to his duties with SCAL, Mr. Samuel also serves as Board Chairman for Motu-Koita Investments Limited the business arm for the Motu-Koita Assembly. In 2019 he was appointed as a Director for Em Stret Holdings Limited. Outside his professional duties, Mr Samuel engages in philanthropy work and is also on the Boards of a few non-profit organisations such as PNG Stoma Association, 'Motu-Koita: The Way Forward' and 'One Family, One Home' where he generously donates his time and resources to assist families and local communities in their times of need.
JEREMY C. CAMPS
Mr. Jeremy Christopher Camps has been involved in the insurance industry for over 50 years. He is a Chartered Insurance Practitioner, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors. He is currently based in Malaysia and has been practicing as a re-insurance specialist and an technical adviser over the past 10 years.
His past achievements include being appointed as a Director of R K Harrison & Co. (a Lloyds agency), Managing Director of Reinsurance Broker Gil Carvajal & Partners (a joint venture between Gil Carvajal of Madrid and Lloyds Broker, Hogg Robinson). In 1988, he joined Lloyds Brokers, Cameron Richard & Smith Insurance Services Ltd (CRS London), to oversee the development of CRS's Asian accounts which eventuated in the establishment of CRS Insurance Services Labuan (CRS Labuan) in 1997. In 2000, he was appointed Managing Director after purchasing substantial shares in CRS Labuan. In 2005, CRS London decided to sell their remaining shareholding, which were purchased by Mr Camps and the company was renamed to JCC Reinsurance (JCC Re). In 2011, JCC Re was effectively taken over by the PWS/THB Group and a new company, PWS Labuan Limited was established. Mr Camps was appointed Chairman & Principal Officer. In 2012, an agreement was reached with the PWS Shareholders for Jeremy to become a non-executive Consultant on a non-exclusive basis. Jeremy decided that rather than waste his 50 years plus experience he would become as independent reinsurance consultant to insurance companies, brokers and others on reinsurance, hence the establishment of JCC Consultants Ltd (Labuan). He also served as Chairman of the Labuan International Insurance Association for five years.
Mr Camps' work has allowed him to visit PNG many times over the past 30 years and he was honored to join 'Team SCAL' as Technical Director when the position was offered to him. Mr Camps played an instrumental role in creating the Reinsurance programs that have been supporting SCAL's book of business since SCAL began operating in 2011.
Mr Camps' vast technical experience in the reinsurance business provides valuable guidance to enhance SCAL's reinsurance capabilities.
Chief Underwriting Officer
Mr Uari Oaveta hails from the Gulf Province of Papua New Guinea and has been in the insurance industry for around 40 years. He is a Fellow of the Australia New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF), hence brings to SCAL vast knowledge and experience in the technical aspects of Risk Management and Underwriting.
Mr Oaveta has held numerous senior management roles throughout his extensive career including Head of Underwriting at QBE (PNG) and then Underwriting Manager at Pacific Assurance Group where he led a team of fourteen staff (four senior underwriters and ten assistant underwriters). Mr Oaveta joined 'Team SCAL' in 2013, as Team Leader - Risk Management and Technical, until being promoted to Chief Underwriting Officer in 2016.
Mr Oaveta's vast hands-on industry experience in Underwriting, Risk Management and also in Claims is an asset to SCAL and gives confidence to the insuring public.
SRIRANGAN E. K.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr Srirangan E. K. (popularly known as 'Sri') is from Chennai, India. He is a graduate qualified chartered accountant and was an auditor for about 15 years before joining 'Team SCAL' in 2013.
He was previously employed at KPMG (Port Moresby office) for three years as a Senior Auditor, specializing in insurance auditing. Sri brings a wealth of accounting experience and a passion for personally mentoring and coaching his staff. Since his arrival in 2013, our accounts department has grown immensely in stature.
Due to his outstanding contribution and commitment to SCAL since joining, in early 2017, Sri was promoted to the role of Acting Chief Operating Officer. This role expanded his responsibilities over the overall business purposely to support the Chief Executive Officer. As he is now based in his hometown Chennai (India), he has resumed his original role as Chief Financial Officer.
Outside of his SCAL duties, Sri runs his own business management consultancy firm, Shreeyuvalok Consultancy Services LLP (SCSL). SCSL provides business and financial management services including business process automation and analytics solutions (reporting).
